Grounding Pebble

A palm-sized shell with one textured thumb wheel set into its surface.

Some days the point is not to play but to hold on to something. The Pebble is the quietest design I have made: a shape that disappears into a closed hand, with a single ridged wheel for the thumb when the hand needs a job.

01The mechanism

How it works.

What this one taught me: Organic surfaces in Blender, and that texture is a design decision: sixteen nubs feel different from twelve.

The pebble-shaped shell is the main body, compact enough to be held in the palm. A central axle supports a rotating thumb wheel, and small raised grip nubs are arranged around the wheel's circumference as contact points for the thumb.

Unlike Tri-Spin, which relies on a larger rotating assembly, the interaction is concentrated into one textured wheel mounted on the surface, so the wheel turns repeatedly without the whole device moving.

The design asks how a small mechanical feature can be integrated into a minimal handheld object while staying portable and easy to handle.

02Parts

Every part, named.

Dimensions are from my STL files. Parts without a file are printed as part of a neighbour or are plain primitives in the model.
